    Hi all
I am running Vista sp1 on an Acer Aspire x3200 and after having problems with my Canon Pixma printer, which is six years old, decided to renew it with a Kodak ESP 3250. When I tried to un-install the old printer through the program & features, uninstall Canon, the uninstaller hangs on three bars in the dialogue box, no matter how long it runs. I have trid to remove the printer through the printers on the control panel, but after clicking delete nothing happens, the printer is still there. I have also tried unplugging the printer and rebooting to no avail. The other problem is that when I try to install my new printer with the software disc, it also hangs at the installation part. I assume the same facility is used to install and un-install, so both printers are out of action at present. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
    Many thanks

I have found the information you mentioned Mattman on Canon website, and tried their advice, but when I opened the printer server properties link there were two pixma ip1500 details, one of which deleted as described and the other flashed a warning that the printer was in use and could not be removed.
As the printer is not in use this was an unexpected response. I have since retried un-installing by the conventional methods, but nothing happens. Two things I will mention is that the Canon icon in the printers list is greyed out, and secondly on the printer server properties, when I click on the ports tab I get the "not responding" warning without showing the ports list. Thank you for your suggestion Mattman and I would still like some more help on this problem.

    Many thanks

If it is not in the instructions, have you deleted it in the Printers folder (Control Panel)?

Have you installed the Kodak printer yet? I might uninstall that, it might be jamming the Canon uninstall. After that I would install the Canon again, then follow the instructions to uninstall it.

    Printer un-install problem

    Hi Mattman
I did try to un-install/delete through control panel/printers, but the same thing happens, it just hangs. I did try to install Kodak printer which hangs at the installation part of the CD setup. I also downloaded the software to check if it was a u/s CD, but the same thing happens. I have tried to contact Acer through their support page, but it will not process my query as it says my serial number is wrong (which it is not), probably a ploy to get me to phone their 0870 number! I have had a suggestion at work that I could run Windows installer cleanup utilty, do you know if this would help?
    Thanks

    Hi all
I tried the installer cleanup utility, but still the same. I have contacted Acer through their 0870 number and the only advice they could give was to re-install to factory settings, which I have now done. The problem has obviously gone now and am now in the process of re-installin all my files and data which I had saved. Many thanks for all your help and you can mark me down as case closed

Morry, you should have talk to us some more before doing that! There were a few other things you could have tried, unless of course your Acer is brand new and you hadn't done much on it. Oh well next time.
