Ask if anything can read the files that were put onto the disks. Check the disks by trying to read them in another computer. Be careful with the disks, a significant scratch on the reading surface can render them useless.
I don't know what creates that sort of backup. Are you using the correct sort of program to reinstall the data? See if you can find files on the disks and their file extension, which is the "dot xxx",for example, a picture file could have an extension of .jpg.
Let us know if you can find any files on the disks.
