Windows Vista in PORTUGAL

hello everyone

I am an exchange student, currently studying in Lisbon, Portugal. My current laptop broke down yesterday so I am in urgent need for a new one. Of course here in Portugal all the new laptops have their OS installed in the Portuguese language which I unfortunately don't master ...

I know that in Belgium (where I live) all Windows installation cd's have the possibilty to install Windows in whatever language you want. I however don't know if this is also the case in Portugal ... if it is I'll just buy a new laptop and format the pc and install Windows in English ... but if it's not how can I get an English windows?

Can I use the english installation cd from a friend and just enter my "portuguese" product key?

So to sum up, i have a triple question:
1. Do windows installation cd's in Portugal allow users to install Windows in whatever language or just in Portuguese?
2. If they only allow Portuguese installation, how can I change the language without formatting the pc and installing windows from another (english) installation cd?
3. If there is no answer to question 2, can I use an english installation cd and just enter my "portuguese" product key?

Thank you very much for your help
koenraad

1. Any & All DVDs only contain the language advertised - e.g. Portuguese in Portugal, English in the UK/US, Dutch in The Netherlands

2. If you have Vista Ultimate or Enterprise, you can download & install MUI (Multilingual User Interface) packs with any of 35 languages available for download from Windows Update.

3. Most likely yes, provided that the key s for the same type of DVD, meaning Retail or OEM.

Are you absolutely 100% sure about that first answer? I am absolutely certain that for Windows XP in Belgium you have the possibility to install Windows in whatever language you want! I don't know if it's the same for Windows Vista in Belgium tho (haven't been using vista for that long)

Yes, I am quite sure. What you are probably mistaken this for is the ability to choose the keyboard layout language.

I have ISO's lying around here with WinXP in English, Dutch, German and Korean

Windows XP has a Multilingual User Interface Pack to enable MUI.

No, unless you have an MSDN subscription (which I doubt you have).
