Windows Media Player has disappeared from my computer
Please help me if you can......I recently tried to open up Windows Media Player and received the following message "The file wmploc.dll has a version number of 11.0.6001.7000 where a version of 11.0.6001.7007 was expected. Windows Media Player is not installed properly and must be reinstalled. Do you want to install the Player from the Microsoft Web site? Yes / No"
I selected "Yes" and was redirected to the Microsoft site, however, when I tried to download Windows Media Player 11, I was redirected to the first page that I was originally redirected to.....I tried several times to click on the "Download Windows Media Player 11" button, but each time the same thing happened. I am using Vista Home Premium and I can the media player under "Programs" but I don't see any trace of it in "Uninstall/Install Programs" and whenever I click on it under "Programs", I continue to get the same error message.......I'm afraid that all my pictures and music may be gone......please help if you can.

Hi BlueandRoxy. Try this, click Start< All Programs< Accessories< Right Click Command Prompt and select run as Administrator. When the command prompt window open type sfc /scannow and press enter. Have your Windows Vista CD handy in case SFC needs a file. After SFC finishes, reboot the computer and see if you can open Windows Media Player.
I'm trying your suggestion now........however, I don't have a Vista CD, I only have the recovery CD's that I had to make when I purchased the computer in November......so what can I use instead, if the computer wants a disc.
Evan, the scan just finished and it didn't request a disc......this is the message that I got "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log for example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log"
I don't know what to do with this information......please advise.

Thats not good news. It seems you have some corrupt files in your Windows Vista installation. Since SFC didn't find and fix all of the corrupted files, try running System Restore (Start< All Programs< Accessories< System Tools< System Restore) and restore your computer to a date before you had this problem.
I did a system restore last week and restored the computer as far back as it would allow me to which was approximately September 10th.......I really don't know when the problem initially occurred, I just know when I tried to access WMP within the last few days, I started getting this error message.
........I have been trying to install a work-related system on my computer for the last 3 weeks and I can't seem to get it to work either, the problem is I don't really know when WMP went out.
To verify that you have Service Pack 2 installed, click Start< Right click My Computer and click properties. The system properties window will open and it will tell you what service pack you are running. If you don't have Service Pack 2 installed then download and install it from here, Windows Vista Service Pack 2.
I didn't have it, so I'm downloading it now.......do you think WMP will just show back up again after downloading this service pack or will I need to do some more stuff?
