Hi there, I accidently deleted windows recovery partition using Killdisk

My computer is an Acer,it had Acer eRecovery on it, and I cannot make recovery disks now because I deleted partition.

But I managed to format the HDD and reload windows with my old recovery disks by booting from the CD DVD drive. So Is there no way of recovering those files now? I bet there is, and I bet it will either be difficult or cost money :(

I got a quote from Acer they want to charge me 130 to reimage the disk or something, but I just don't have that money...

    help would be greatly appreciated!

Have a look at my other threads too

Why are you anxious to make a new set of Recovery Disks when you already have a set that apparently work?

It is straightforward to create an image of your hard in it's current state and store on external media - DVD or USB drive, using drive imaging software such as Acronis - there are third part freeware apps too, but I am not familiar with them.

    Hi

I don't only need to make recovery disks but i need that partitioning back to make them! eRecovery was deleted using killdisk...

So I cant create new recovery disks. And I want to make recovery disks with all my documents on it so that if i happened to get a virus I could use the latest recovery disk.

If eRecovery is not working properly... then it gives little hope on whether my recovery disks will work next time...

Your Recovery partition is gone - you will need to look at alternatives to maintain a current image of your drive which would include everything on the drive, OS, documents, settings, etc - i.e. an exact copy of the drive.

As I suggested disk imaging is the way to go using software such as Acronis True Image Home which is what I use to image my main OS drive incrementally on a schedule to a second hard drive on a weekly basis.

To restore the image to the main drive takes about 30 minutes and runs from a bootable CD created in Acronis.

There is other third party software which will do this, some of which are freeware. DriveImageXL is one that comes to mind although I am not familiar with it.

So what exactly did I delete? Was it very important?
Im kinda confused... but I did download a program called EASEUS Todo backup 1.0 a freeware one... Does this just copy my computers details from one HDD to another? Is that what your talking about.

So what exactly am I trying to replace? lol I'm very lost cause I dont know what I deleted or what its for...

Most recovery partitions contain a mirror image of the drive together with the ability to make a set of Recovery DVD's which contain the same image. On some computers - I can only speak for HP of which I have 2 in addition to my main desktop - the opportunity to make Recovery Disks is a one-off option, but there is also the option to press Fxx (F10 on HP) to restore the computer to the factory state. This state contains none of the data or programs which you created or installed. It sounds like the Acer software images the disk to the Recovery Partition maintaining all the data, etc on the disk, in other words it makes a current image of the drive.
Yes, that is disk imaging software - from their site ....
An image of your drive will be created which you can restore when needed.

Bear in mind that the image must be kept current - an image made, say, last Friday will include all your data up to that point - it will not include data inputted over the weekend. Imaging the drive weekly is recommended.

Ok cool I will format my external and make room for the backup image to go on there.

i will let you know how it goes...

Also, if i do get in strife and I want to load what I had imaged on the HDD how would I go about that?

You will have to read the instructions for that software - generally, certainly with Acronis, you also produce a CD from which you boot when you want to restore an image. I imagine EASEUS Todo has the same facility.

    Hi

So if I use this program it should make recovery disks and keep my Vista and all my documents so if I do run into trouble I can just reload the computer files and OS again or just computer files?

    See this page ....

    When to use Todo Backup?
If you make an image of the drive ALL the drive contents will be restored - OS, documents, settings. The drive will be restored to the same state as it was in when you made the image.

As I posted earlier it will not restore changes made AFTER you made the image, so a current image is necessary. I image my drive on a weekly basis.
