Ok, here is a good one for many to stu on. I've been wrestling this install for weeks now and I'm out of solutions. Many say reinstall Vista but I will just wait for Windows 7 and do a clean install. I haven't disable system restore but that is next. Have fun if you know this one, I'm out of solutions.

    Problem:

"Error 1713.Intel(R) Nework Connections cannot install one of its required products. Contact your technical support group."

All I'm trying to do is update my Network Connections on my Intel Gig Lan. I have never had problems before with this setup until this update was posted on 8/24. Forums indicate a windows install problem, others say it's Intel as many may be having this problem.

I've uninstalled all drivers on the Networking and reinstalled. I've tried the clean up utility, I've uninstalled from Device Manager, Programs, and registry but I continue to get the same results:

Err...firstly, why are you trying to update the drivers? Are you experiencing problems? The Vista Service Pack level might be an influence. Do you just want to have the latest drivers?

I don't update drivers unless I suspect a problem with them.

You have an Intel driver installer, working on a MS installer and there might possibly be a third party involved. If either Intel or MS find an ongoing problem with the install, you will find it will be retracted and replaced. If not, suspect a problem on your computer.

Error 1713 is a Windows Installer error. Download and run the Windows Installer Cleanup utility and remove the Windows Installer configuration information for the Intel driver installation.

    Then reinstall the original drivers.

I do suspect a problem with Intel, no problems with current 2008 driver, just wanted the latest driver on the system. Intel generally posts new drivers every few months, I'll wait for Windows 7.

I did perform the Cleanup utility, no change. That's why I suspect Intel. Everything else loads but the one update with the LAN.

    Thanks guys.

Aparently, Vista had already updated this driver to the latest. My error was trying to install the same driver or one click less driver. After doing more research on the existing driver, I discovered the driver I was trying to install was actually a click older than the driver updated by Vista.

Thanks to Vista, it is doing a great job of updating. The poster that commented "why are you updating" I guess hit it right on the head. Let the operating system do it's job, if it ain't broke don't fix it....thanks
