Vista programs shutting down

Hi all,

I have a Windows Vista Premium program on my Acer computer. When I dont use the computer I put it in "SLEEP" mode, and turn off the computer screen.

5 days ago I see that when I turn on the computer screen, after being away several hours , there is a captioning in the middle of the screen saying
"ACER (N~1.SCR has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

Yesterday, for the very first time, I saw this caption in the middle of the screen when I was actually using the computer, and not when turning on the computer screen after being away from it several hours. It is easy to delete this caption as I just go on it and delete it.

But today I see in addition to the above caption, another caption in front of the above caption. It appears again in the same way, i.e. when I turn on the computer screen after not using the computer for several hours.

The caption reads"
" PCM Media SHARING EXE has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

Is Windows Vista Premium a program from hell? Have I bought a lemon of a product, and why only now after 14 months of using it?

I have this sense of deja vu, as this caption is the same size as the other caption and sits directly on top of the other caption. its easy to delete, and then I also delete the first caption. So far Windows has not been able to find a solution., 5 days later , to the first caption. If the problem is stopping the program to work correctly, then these 2 above programs are working incorrectly. How much damage is happening to the computer? Is there a solution to the problem? I have never seen these captions before 5 days ago.
Any help is deeply appreciated

The .scr file is an (Acer) screensaver. Change your screensaver to a Windows one (I don't use one, I just set it to blank and I don't install any third-party screensavers). See if that fixes the problem. If so, the Acer screensaver is probably the cause. It is easy to blame Windows when the cause may be a so-so written third party program.

If you don't need that screensaver, you should be able to uninstall it in Control Panel -> Programs and Features.

My System

PCM Media SHARING EXE also seems some useless Acer bloat-ware. Disable it from running through msconfig. Type msconfig in Vista's Start Search box and press Enter. Go to the Startup tab & uncheck the entry for PCM Media SHARING .

Also make sure that you have the latest drivers for your hardware. You can download these from the Acer Support site.
