[Installation of Vista Service Pack 2 fails]

Has anyone managed to install this yet? I have tried but it stops part way through with an installation failed message - I have followed all Microsofts suggestions to resolve the problem but to no avail.

I have installed SP2 successfully but before I installed it I disabled my AV and Spyware program and it downloaded SP2 and installed it without any gliches.
I am not a licensed tech but read someone else had problem and were told to disable and try downloading SP2 again and it perform the download and install task successfully.

Nope, not yet. It's been offered many times, but not recently. I have a Dell XPS with Vista Home Ultimate. Now that you mention it, I think I'll try to find it as a standalone installer, save it to my desktop, shut down everything I can (including USB drives) and try it again.

Oops, my bad...I was thinking of probs with SP1; I'm gonna wait until it's "pushed" to me, *then* take the steps I just described to get it installed. I'm not enthusiastic about downloading something that has been "leaked to the internet".

SP2 download from MS here ....

Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 and Windows Vista Service Pack 2 - Five Language Standalone (KB948465)

348 Mb

tuskertec - I had no issues installing the SP2 beta or the RTM - suggest you might try an install from a direct download rather than through Windows Update.

The URL I posted above is from MS Downloads.

Just installed SP2 from Microsoft Update (Vista Home Premium). Left AVG anti-virus active but shut down everything else.

When very smoothly with no glitches.

My System

For the very first time ever, I had a problem with installing any update, or service pack.
This is what I did.
I downloaded standalone version (Pete's link), then....

Go Start>Run (Start Search in Vista), type in:
msconfig
Click OK (hit Enter in Vista).

Click on Startup tab.
Click Disable all

Click Services tab.
Put checkmark in Hide all Microsoft services
Click Disable all.

Click OK.
Restart computer in Normal Mode.

It installed without a problem, then.

It failed once for me to download, I just told it to try again and it worked. Took ages to get running though...

After many misgivings, I just installed SP2 on my laptop. I downloaded the standalone a couple days ago and decided to for it. I turned off my Norton 360 auto protect, turned off my network connection, also skype, and Kodak Easy Share. It took a little over 20 minutes to install and so far so good. Will give it a couple of days and try it on my desktop.
