OK, so I'm trying to install this update using Microsoft Update, and it constantly is failing, but every other update has gone through with no problem. All I get, everytime I try, is a generic Code 643 failure message with no details. Just the good ole' "It failed, but we don't know why" type of answer... Anyone have any ideas what I can try?

Hi neutropia. For the .Net Framework update that has been failing try downloading it manually from the Microsoft website and then install it. Download it from here, http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=7EEA368D-7B82-4583-8537-30351718A4E9&displaylang=en. Also make sure that you shut down all backround programs that are running in the system tray in the taskbar to avoid other problems with installing updates. If those options don't work then follow these steps.

    1. Click Start and type cmd in the Start Search box, right-click cmd.exe (shown at the top of the Start menu) and click Run as administrator. This will open the command prompt.
    2. In the command prompt window type Net stop wuauserv and press Enter. This will stop the Automatic Update Service.
    3. Type rd /S %Windir%\SoftwareDistribution. This will delete the %Windir%\SoftwareDistribution folder. Type Y to confirm.
    4. Type Net start wuauserv (hit Enter) to start the Automatic Update Service. Close the command prompt.
    5. Reboot the computer.
    6. When the computer starts back up, either open Windows Update and force a Windows Update detection or try installing the update manually. See if you can get the update to install correctly.

Let me know if those solutions worked.

Sorry about the 'quick' reply. God bless work.

    Anyways, neither solutions worked, unfortunately.

I honestly think my install of .NET got messed up when I upgraded from XP to Vista.

It shows it as being installed on the remove programs list, but it shows no Publisher or file size like everything else from MS. And when I TRY to uninstall it, my HD activity light goes crazy for a few minutes and then that's it. It never actually uninstalls even after a reset.

Any ideas how to repair .NET all together since that sounds like the issue?
