    .
    Hello,

I was googling my issue and I landed here. My system randomly lookup without mouse movement, blue screen and once in a while i get reboot. I honestly do know what causes this. I've run MemTest86 to check for RAM, Prime95 without an issue. I've also run HOT CPU Tester for 6Hours with out no errors.

Mostly I get lockup, while using Photoshop, Lightroom, Words, browsing the harddrive, organize the shortcut icons on the desktop or simiple right click and choose Propeties or even closing up a problem by click the [X] button.

It gave me a blue screen then i believe there is a dump file some where to example but i dont even know where it is located and how to read. Where as other time it lockup or restart how on earth can determine the core problem. Is there any ultilities out thee would able me to dectect hardware failiur? I mean as far as MemTest86, Prim95 and Hot CPU Tester no error were found when I run these tests.

Any comment or help would be much appriciated. I understand this is an old system, but I can't afford to upgrade anytime soon.

Follow these instructions to post a Dump Data Log.

If you do not have a dump, ensure that your machine is configured to write out a dump by following the directions from microsoft

Hi, can you elaborate a little bit more when you say this is an old system, yet you are running Vista on it.
Some system details would help the experts here to help you.

    Thank you both,

I believe Vista keeps a really nice log of what has happened to it system of when program crashes and such. I'll look into that later and will post back here when i get home. As for Dump File, i'll try to collect it if it is still there. I haven't had blue screen for a while and rarely get a reboot. What is really happen is LockUp, causes to loose my unsaved works.

Well consider we have moved forward to Core2Duo and Quad-cores, I'm still holding back to old technology Pentium Dual. Please see "My System" for my computer details. Please note I'm currently run at stock speed. Only crank it up when i'm doing Rendering or encoding but rarely.

Should there be a software that would able to test each component individually to find out the core causes.

p.s. this experience happen both on Vista and Xp systems. So i dont' think it is OS but more like Hardwares.

For freezes or hangs I find I can trace it to what I expect the computer will do from my command. Does it call up a certain driver or program (maybe search the drives)?

PS "...only crank it up..." if you use a program/software to adjust the speed, look at that program for a possible cause (uninstall and reinstall it). That program will rely on a very good set of drivers to work correctly.
