Windows Vista update - wont boot-up after

I have windows vista on my main computer at the moment and I was just after booting it up and after about 5min it freeze up and I had to turn the power off to reboot it. (never crashed before and been using for 5 months now) It then started to boot up saying 1 of 3 updates. So it did that and then shutdown and restarted the boot sequence everytime for each update which I thought was wierd. Now it been rebooting and shutting down for the passed 10 mims and everytime on update 3 of 3 it goes to 87% and then say shutting down. Then it reboots and the whole thing happens again.

Anyone having the same problem? Any information or links for support you could send me would be very helpful thanks. I have already googled it and also try the windows website, nothing.

I been trying my windows vista cd using the repair system options, trying to search for problems or restore system from a restore piont, but nothing has worked so far. I have tried f8 , nothing is working

Thanks
Ciaran

My System

Hi Ciaran. Welcome to Windowsbbs! This happened to me as well where my computer after installing some updates and it would say configuraing updates stage 3 of 3 do not turn off your computer and then it would continue to reboot without showing the logon screen. I had to boot from the Windows DVD and perform a System Restore. I would suggest you try that as well. If that doesn't work then try running Startup repair from the Vista DVD. If that also fails then reboot the computer and press F8 to bring up the advanced boot options menu and Select Last Known Good Configuration. Start there and let me know if any of those options worked for you.

Hi Evan
Thanks very move for your reply, but I have actually tried everything you listed above, but nothing is working. The restore didnt do anything, tried all the f8 options and all the dvd repair options.

Can you get the computer into Safe Mode? If you can't then it looks like you are going to have to perform a repair install of the OS by booting from the DVD and selecting the Upgrade option.
