Unhappy Problems after SP1 install

After installing SP1 with the help of MS tech I have found that it will hang when I try to shut down. It might shut down as it should 1 time out of 4. I have to kill the main power to shut down. It will just act as if I have not selected the shut off option at all no matter how many times I select it. Also it will lock up in IE at differnt times and it will not let IE shut down . It will be frozen and I will have to do a power down to kill it and shut down.

Any suggestions?

Jeff

Unless someone can see another solution, I suggest you go to the manufacturer of the computer/motherboard and get updated drivers. Start with the chipset drivers. If the manufacturer (of the motherboard) doesn't have recent drivers, go to the manufacturer of the chipset to get them.

Thanks for the come back. I have the latest chip set drivers in place. Do you think I need to update the BIOS?

There seems to be some varying updates for the BIOS, not just "CPU compatibility", so yes, a BIOS upgrade could be possibly do the trick.

I went to Asus assuming it is the P5WDH you are working on. I only found information for the P5WDH Deluxe without cross-referencing. It seems Asus has not supplied many Vista drivers for that motherboard as yet. I suggest finding Vista drivers for all your hardware. I would concentrate on the Marvell Yukon Ethernet Drivers (there are several), since you say IE is freezing.

An IE problem might also make me suspect malware. Try getting a malware "second opinion" by running an online antivirus scan.

You could try uninstalling SP1. That will allow you to function normally until you do your checks, tests and updates.

I haven't installed SP1 yet, I just get recent Windows Updates. I am going to update all my drivers at the hardware manufacturers' websites before I install SP1.
