Windows Vista Vista asks for ISP username and password

I just got a new laptop with Vista but I can't connect to the internet. Vista asks for the ISP details. My problem is exactly the same as the one discussed here - http://www.windowsbbs.com/windows-vista/73573-vista-asking-internet-password-when-shouldnt.html

With the other systems (mac, xp) you just need to plug in the internet cable and then your internet works. You don't need to do any configurations at all.

When you plug in the cable to vista, nothing happens. There's no automatic internet connection.

So, we go into "create internet connection ", where there's three options: Wireless, PPPoE and dialup.

All three of them require a login, with a username and a password, which isn't needed at either mac or xp.

So, is there another way to connect? Why won't it "just work" like on the other systems? Why does vista decide that our internet service require login, which we don't have?

Does anyone know a solution?

 

I entered the information but I still can't connect. I get "Error 815" and something about Wan Miniport. I tried the manually entering my IP address and other details into Internet Protocol Version 4 on the LAN properties but that didn't work either.

Essentially the problem is this: My internet connection works normally for any XP computer, but the new Vista computer I bought won't connect. It asks for a username and password but even if I enter all those details, it won't connect. What is Error 815?

well that's a feature added to it a more advance internet security access i guess. thanks to those "net intellects" i must say.

 

I've not seen this myself, and I have been running Vista since June of 2007; however, I am using an administrator account, not a limited account. Perhaps Vista needs that authority to set up a new connection initially?

You could try that. Control Panel/User Accounts/Change Account Type/Admininstrator. Set up connection. Go back and reduce the account back to a limited account afterwards.
