Re: installing Epson Perfection 1660 Photo
scanner on new computer with Vista Windows.

I downloaded new driver, Epson Twain 5 Driver V5.71A Epson 12242.EXE.6.9B but it does not permit me to install Epson Smart Panel. Terefoe, I'm limited to only scan by pressing on Start Button. I cannot make use of the other functions normally shown on the Smart Panel...e.g. Scan to email etc...

There is no icon that appears on my lower bar nor is it shown on my list of programs. It is only shown in my Control Panel. Unjfortunately, Epson Support is of no help. They only say to uninstall the program and re-install the new driver, which we know is to no avail.

Your help wolud greatly be appreciated as my investment in thi Epson Scanner is useless.. Thanks.

    Regards,

    Luc Trepanier

On the page with the link to download those drivers when you click the plus sign next to the link you will see:

    • A TWAIN compliant Windows Vista 32-bit supported scanning application is required.
    • The buttons on the scanner and the HELP functionality in this driver are not supported in Windows Vista.

I would take that to mean Epson does not yet have the functions you want included in that driver package.
