I noticed this problem a couple of days ago. I used system retore and went back to March 10th but I am still locked out of several files.:(

    I'm in C:\Users\Sallie\Documents

    C:\users\ Sallie\ Documents\Application Data is not accessible.
    Access is denied.

I see the same notice for each of the files below,

    Cookies
    My Music
    My Pictures
    My Videos
    Local Settings
    My Documents
    NetHood
    PrintHood
    Recent
    SendTo
    Start Menu

Hi Sallnjackn. Welcome to Windowsbbs! I am running Windows Vista and I have had a few issues with permissions and trying to gain acess to those stubborn files and folders as well. The only way to gain access to some of those stubborn files or folders is to take ownership of them.

    Try this:

    1. Right click on the Sallie folder located in C:/Users/Sallie then go to properties
    2. Click the security tab
    3. Click advanced
    4. Click the owner tab
    5. Click edit
    6. Highlight your user name and check the replace owner on subcontainers and objects checkbox, click apply then ok. Then press ok on all of the other windows to exit out of them.

Once thats done see if you can gain access to the selected folders. :) If you run into any problems let me know. ;)

Thank you for your help. The action seemed to work for me. I can access the files but they still have the funny blue mark in them that indicated denied access before. If I have more trouble I'll write back. I notice when I get to properties the read only box is hi-lighted.

These are not actually folders, but 'junction points'. Junctions behave like shortcuts, but look just like regular folders.

Their purpose is to silently redirect programs that access them to their Windows Vista equivalent.

Since junctions aren't really folders, it is not possible to access them, and any attempt to do so will give you an "Access Denied" error.

    no problem?

So Arie, does that mean I don't have to worry about getting into these files and all of the files I've saved are still accessible? If so that is very good news!
