Internet Explorer 7 in 64-bit mode: Awesome! Minefield, otherwise known as Firefox 3 Beta 3, the only x64 Firefox browser currently available. Incredible...BUT! There are no Flash/Shockwave, amongst others, 64-bit plug-in's available, so I am forced to use FF2 x86, as well as IE7 x86, and I don't understand how anybody browses without, at a minimum, the Adobe Flash Player plug-in.

Most sites that I frequent require the Adobe Flash player, some do the Shockwave, too. I watch a lot of CNN and NBC News, and both of those, amongst many others, require the Flash player. Is anyone aware of beta plug-in's, or an ETA as to when they'll be released? Is there any other (temporary) solution that I am unaware of.

    Thx all! :)

    Ehh... I don't :D

That's the problem with 64-bit; there's not enaugh support yet for it. I just use the 'standard' (32-bit) IE.

Right...Too bad, huh? IE 64-bit is one crazy fast instrument...:D

Do you notice an increase in performance/speed using a 32-bit browser in Vista x64?

No, but then again, I don't 'keep score'. But I can't notice a difference between XP & Vista X64 web browsing on the same machine. Maybe if I would time it, but that's not something I'm interested in.

Hey, at least both IE7 and FF2 work equally as well/fast, etc. on x64. How difficult is it to get a plug-in of Flash Player out there?? I realize that the first priority was for the masses, 32-bit Vista users, to get Vista x86 plug-in's. And rightly so. But it's been well over a year.

Maybe they're waiting for the official release of SP1. I just thought of that. We're running the RTM, while Adobe, and others hopefully, are kicking the RTM back to MS, along with a 64-bit plug-in. One of the benefits of SP1 is that it supposedly makes it easier for software vendors to design applications, including the mini-mini-mini ones...like a darn plug-in. lol...

So maybe later this month then... Hmm...

    64 Bit And All That...

I have a 64 bit system with Vista (Ultimate) ,which I chose in the hope of future proofing , but it is rather a pain. It is difficult to say faster or slower, since this machine always has been 64 bit and so if I compare it with my previous machine I have to take into account everything else - processor speed, RAM, OS etc...
Nikon don't support 64 bit , and most of my usage is photography connected, and if I ever mention 64 bit to Nikon in connection with any problem they just say they can't help - whether my problem had anything to do with that or not, so it seems ....
Elsewhere, I have had problems following automatic downloads so frequently, that I dare not let downloads instal automatically - e.g. SP1 for Windows Office disables my mouse in some applications.
I have continuous problems in one of the Adobe programmes ( Browse in Photoshop CS3) and again I have never got anywhere with Adobe trying to sort them out.
Unless things change a lot, I wouldn't buy 64 bit again.

Well, I use my Nikon camera too, but I have NO need to use Nikons software; I wouldn't know for what? I can get my pictures using Windows Explorer.

It's not always a question of Nikon software- I have had that reply about not supporting 64 bit when asking questions about colour temperature discrepancy after opening files in the Camera Raw dialogue, and also asking about files which were ephemeral - downloaded and then disappeared !

So don't tell them you have Vista 64-bit if it doesn't apply ;)
