Connecting to the Internet

Hi,
I just installed Vista Premium on my laptop, and I am trying to get it on the internet. I have a Sagem F@st 800-840 modem, which has worked on Windows ME, XP and XP MCE before. I downloaded the new Vista software/drivers for it, but the connection hangs on "Verifying Username and Password", and finally gives me Error 721: The remote computer did not respond... (etc. etc.)

The only way I can get on the internet is by networking
my laptop/pc and using my pc's internet, which I am doing. So if anyone knows what the problem could be, I would be very grateful.

Thanks

Several suggestions for the conversation with your ISP:

1) Are they compatible with IPv6?
2) Have they enabled responses to the requests from the DHCP broadcast flag on your system?
3) Are there any other compatibility issues with Vista that they are aware of?

I am assuming this thing is a USB DSL modem? There is a lot of fuss and rubbish about USB device drivers in Vista being simple patched XP drivers rather than fully re-written/compiled drivers specifically for Vista. My guess would be that the modem's drivers are just not working properly. For a global solution, nip out and get yourself a DSL router instead. You can then use this with a standard RJ45 network cable which is a lot less bothersome and a lot more secure too.
