Hi I had formated this laptop a few months ago and after the internet explore wouldnt connect anymore but the firefox would so I've been useing that browser but now it wont connect anymore, my other laptop connects fine, i have att universe wireless. It seems like it happened when i installed some windows updates the other day so i deleted those but it still wont connect, i also tried system restore several times going farther and farther back but it always said and error occured. when i right click the connection icon and choose repair it runs and then says a problem that cant be repaired automatic and i need to contact my provider. Doesnt make any sence to me, can anyone help? thanks

Click on Start, and then in search box, type ncpa.cpl and press Enter

    Network Connections window should open.

Right click on your Wireless Network icon, and select Properties

Scroll down and double click on Internet Protocol [TCP/IP]

Make sure that the two boxes are checked to
Obtain IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically

Restart the computer and check your internet connection again.

Why did you format your laptop? Do you mean that you reinstalled the original factory image?

From your previous posts, I'm assuming this laptop is your Acer 5515. Correct?

ok there were two version of internet protocal, 4 and 6. 4 was set right but 6 had the one checked to use some address in the boxs so i changed it like you said and now firefox is working but internet explorer still wont connect, i did go through some things and checked boxes to make firefox my default browser. I formated or should i say reset the computer back to factory cause the hard drive was full and just running bad, its been good till this problem.

    Progress! Good work!

Now try the AT&T U-verse troubleshooter for IE.

    AT&T U-verse Internet Explorer Troubleshooter

Choose "Can't Browse" from the list of topics, and then Internet Explorer.

For your problem with System Restore, try shutting it off. Then reenable it. The old restore points will be deleted. They aren't useful anyway because of the Windows updates.

Manually initiate a new restore point. If it says restore point completed successfully you are good.

Let's wait to see what AT&T U-verse has to say about the IP and DNS server addresses.

Did you talk with a human? No explanation for failure to connect or the changing IP and DNS addresses?

Do you have the malwarebytes program on your computer?

Have you done any malware scans since this problem cropped up?

With your automatic IP and DNS settings, and with Firefox working, go to the link below and download version 3.0.8 of TCP Optimizer from the speedguide.net mirror.

    SpeedGuide TCP Optimizer

It is a standalone portable executable file that does not install the program on your computer. Run the downloaded tool and on the File menu, Click Reset TCP/IP and then Reset Winsock, then close the program.

Reboot the computer and see if there is any improvement.

All that counts is that you got it going. That is good news. Thanks for the follow-up.
