My old laptop came partitioned. The C is now full but the D has a fair bit of
space. Can I merge them using Vista Disk Manager without too much drama or
    loss of data?

    Thanks!

What is on "D "? May be your recovery partition. If it is, I would not recommend moving anything to it.

I thought there were only my files on the D. I guess I should do a closer analysis of what is
on there, eh? If there was a 'recovery partition' in the D partition what would it be filed as?

Probably RECOVERY. Not sure though. What does it show when you click on it and open it up?

Have a look in Disc Management. It shows D as Recovery in mine. Neil.
