Windows Vista Blue screen on start-up

Hi there - hoping someone can help me...

Having start-up issues with my fiancee's laptop.

It's on Windows Vista Home Premium. Everytime I get to the log-in screen and type the password and press enter a blue screen flashes up and tries to restart. This is a continuous cyle that I cannot seem to get out of. I've also tried restarting in safe mode with no joy.

Any suggestions on how to resolve please? My Fiancee is a teacher and has some important documents that she need to access and that we don't want to lose.

Any suggestions/recommendations would be greatly received.

Thanks for the reply. The urls seem to be instructions for XP and not Vista? Does this matter or is it the same process?
