Question

Automatic Updates missing in Services on Vista Ultimate SP2 -How to re-ins?

G'day Folks,

Having changed HDD on the HP Pavilion entertainment PC (dv6519tx) from the 250GB to 500GB using the cloning (disk copy) on my HDD docking unit, which worked fully so I thought, the Laptop booted up OK and all seems to be functioning other than that I cannot perform windows or Microsoft Updates because the "Automatic Updates" in Services from the Administrative Tools is missing.

Does anyone know how to fix, re-install the Automatic Updates in Services, without needing to run the repair or reinstalling Vista Ultimat SP2 - please

Looking for easy fix if we have one

Hi pcbugfixer, Do you have an Icon for Windows Updates in Control Panel or has that gone?
When I open Administrative Tools > Services > scroll down to Windows Update - is this what is missing? Neil.

Would this be any help:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883614

G'day "retiredlearner" Thanks for replying,

1. Windows update is in the CP.
2. What is missing is part of the Management Console, namely in the "Administrative Tools" -> "Services", in the Services the Automatic Updates is missing !
3. Hence when I run (from any location or shortcut) the "Windows Update" which in my instance is the "Windows Update with Windows Ultimate Extras" updater, and I click on the [Check for updates] button, I get an error message,
Title: Windows Update
Message content: Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer.
Option: [OK] is the only option.

Other programs have no issue with installing them or updating.

Trust this clarifies the issue

Regards
pcbugfixer
