My System

Small Bussines Server 2003 - semi random shuutdown

Problem as follows: The server is turning off every morning between 6 and half 7 except Sunday and Monday. No restart, total shutdown!??

Server: Intel Xeon 3:00 Mhz, 4GB RAM, Windows Small Bussines Server 2003, Exchange server,SQL Database Server and the ISA firewall.

What I know so far:

1. I reviewed event logs and the only error or warning that i seen is EVENTID: 6008, which indicates that the server shuts down unexpectedly (which I know without it!)

At various forums and the official web sites of Microsoft i only found that event id 6008 is usually preceded by some process or service that is broken i there is always another eroor or waning event id. But with me it is not so, all neat and clean, the server works perfectly (except when it is not extinct) event logs do not show any error other than the above-mentioned.

2. I thought maybe somebody joke with me and in the cmd-initiated Shutdown.exe and set the rhythm of shuting down the computer! Checked: that's not the reason. Only I have access to the server, and that I didnt find anything similar.

3. Problems with electricity or UPS system? Energy suplier says that there is no electricity disappearances in my area at the time, and as for the ups, I restarted the fuses and he regularly keeps the server runs the still half an hour after the power failure.

5. Server does not use the automatic windows update beacuse that requires automatis restart and i dont want that. I dint installed nothing last quite of time iand i didnt touch anything on server. Backup works fine, all drives are OK......

Still some things I saw and tried but I think it is not so relevant to recall. I have not looked Bios but i dont believe that my bios will utomatically make such a function if at all in the BIOS.

Sorry for my english ( i hope it isnt so bad) and thanks all that are going to try and help me!

When do you backup? What time does the back up usually end?

I've seen cases where back tape drive faults cause the system to crash without errors in the event log. These crashes tend to happen at a certain point in the backup process and therefore can often occur at the same time each day.

Well, backup is OK because it finish 2 hours before the shutdown happens. But the last entry in event log appears 20 minutes before shutdown and it is regular event id of volume shadow copy starts and then entry that it is ended. Just in case i will continue to monitor and record my server with web camera every day to get some more information.

I got the same entries every day except sunday and monday - on that days there is no shutdown so there i no event id 6008 - that is only difference. I can see no errors regarding volume shadow copy and all backups works fine. I really dont unddrestand this, i think i have ghosts in my server room! On wednesday night i put camera to record and in the morning after there is no shutdown. Next day - no camera - shutdown. Then next two days no shutdown - tomorow .....?
