I am having problems with WSUS. I have installed WSUS on my SBS 2003 (SP2) and its installed fine. I have followed the instructions to point the client computers at the WSUS server.
I have added the Admin Template (wuau.adm) to Group Policy (on server), and also updated and enabled the:
Specify Intranet Microsfot update service location
    pointing to it to http://SERVERNAME

I have also use enabled :
    Configure automatic updates
and set it to download and notify.

When i look at the Automatic Updates within Control Panel (on client) it is grayed out, so it appears to be using my GP settings. But the client computer is not displayed on the Computers page within WSUS and I have tried the troubleshooting with no luck (which suggested Run then cscript WSUS install c:\Program Files\Update Services\Setup\InstallSelfupdateOnPort80.vbs)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'd suggest pointing at the full DNS name of the server rather than the netBIOS name so:

    \\servername.domain.local

Also make sure that all client PC have the SBS server as their primary DNS server.

All clients DNS point to the SBS server, tried what you suggested then updated group policy but still not showing computers. All clients can access sharepoint website with no problems, but WSUS server can't see computers.

Finally got the bloody thing working after researching many web sites, discovered that there is not that much useful content for troubleshooting WSUS. Apparently some people have problems with WSUS on SBS such as I have experienced, this is thought to be caused by existing Sharepoint/Companyweb site being on Port 80. So WSUS on SBS installs on port 8530.

The solution is to add the port number after the name of the intranet service in Group Policy, so it reads

Specify Intranet Microsoft update service location
    http://SERVERNAME:8530

I have done this on my SBS server and all computers show up in WSUS now, also upgraded to latest version. WSUS 3.0 is easier to install and use than WSUS 2.0 and also is less memory intensive. I was getting Allocated Memory Alerts after I installed WSUS 2.0, but not had any with WSUS 3.0. Finally, the WSUS 3.0 MMC-based user interface is better than the old web interface.

Thanks for all the help, and hope this info might assist someone else who wants WSUS on SBS.
