Catch 22 Win 95/98/xp home

A little background first: I had an old PB P1 machine running win95 that I used to drive my plotters, well...

The old machine BLEW up so I drug out a Compact with Win98/SE on it to take it's place. The HDD from the PB is still good and has the plotter driver application program on it.

I installed the the win/95 drive as a slave on the compact but windows can't see it.

I can unplug the win/98 drive and boot in win/95 safe mode only(doesn't have Cirrus VGA on it) The app. program will run but since it's in safe mode, I have no ports to connect it to the plotters.

I moved the program from the 95 drive to the SE drive by sending it to a floppy then then plugging the SE drive back up and booting in 98 then downloading it from the floppy but it will not run in SE.

Does anybody have any ideas as to how I can either

boot the 95 hdd in normal mode or -

make the program run in 98/SE or -

make 98/SE see the 95 drive.

I am in somewhat of a hurry since I have 5 jobs stacked up already and am getting real tired of trying to figure out how to get there from here.

Thanks much DPI.

If you want to use the Windows 95 HD in the Compaq, you will need to re-install Windows, since the hardware is different from the machine where you took it from.

You'll just re-install 95 in the same directory.

As for running the program on 98, you will need to install the program. Just copying its files from 95 > 98 won't work (as you discovered).

Thanks for the reply Arie. I forgot to tell you that I tried to install the program. It says that it installed it but it doesn't work. The 95 HD was compressed so I think I will have to decompres it before I can move it over to the other HD. Also, 95 came with the PB and will not install on the Compact. Thx DPI.

Well, it is a problem if you rely on software that only runs on an ancient OS.
