Question When all anti virus support for 98se ends?

I use Avast. 98se support for this anti virus application ends the last of 2009. My research so far shows nothing that will be supporting 98se after that time period. I am still looking .....

Is there anyone out there that can tell me that my 'research' is faulty? Can you please tell me that you know of an anti virus application that will continue supporting 98se beyond the end of 2009?

If not -- I and all other die hard 98se users will have to revise their 98se connection to the internet or give up using either 98se or the internet. Doing either is serious. Serious in time. Serious in learning curve. Serious in dollars.

I, for one, am hoping there is something left anti virus wise that is compatible with 98se and the future.

Hi Rod, not much left out there for Win 98. Bitdefender apparantly still has a free edition for Win 98, but for how long who knows. I changed to XP about 6 months ago because I found that so many programs were no longer available for 98 that it was becoming increasingly frustrating to stay with it.

My AVG (granted I installed it about 2 years back) stil updates and scans. I'm not sure if I'm grandfathered in, as long as it's still installed... But I'm still getting the latest updates.

Thanks for the replies. My added research has found www.eset.com. They have a package they call ESET NOD32 2.7 that works with 95/98/ME. A two year license cost $104.00 for two computers for two years. I asked their sale department when they expected to cease support for 98se. Their response was in their words;

Currently our version 2.7 of NOD32 Antivirus supports Windows 98. At this point in time, we still plan to support this version and do not currently have a specific date as to when we will stop supporting it.

The software's manual (a pdf) on line at their site looks and feels good to me. At $26.00 per machine per year I think I have found my bridge to the future.

Thanks again.

IMHO ESET NOD32 is one of the best av's - I currently use it - the suite version - on my main desktop (XP) and have had no issues. It should serve you well

PeteC

Thanks for the words of ecouragement. At this point in time my only problem has been figuring our how to purchase the license on line. I am unable to find anything that specifically targets version 2.7 in their purchase windows. This just produces a delay of one day in my plans. I'll call them later today.

I just read a review that placed Eset in the top 5 as number 5 but as one of few that still support Window 98.
