Missing USB port recognition

Have my father-in-law's IBM Thinktank 1400 i series laptop with Windows 98. Seems that this laptop does not recognize the USB port or plug-n-play when I attach my Epson C88 series printer. In the Control panel utilities under System, no Universal Serial Bus entry is available, which makes me think the system does not recognize the USB port. Did find the Usbhub.sys and Usbd.sys and USB.PINF and PCI.vxd drivers. Have Win 98 SE upgrase which I could install. I would appreciate any help you may be in this matter. Thanks. Mike Margrave

No promises, but yes it should be OK and definately better than 98. You will still have some problems with many USB devices though, a lot require XP or better.

Can't say Mike, I don't know where you are

Here it's getting a bit tough though, quite a few major names have went out of business and more threatening to do so.

It may be possible the USB ports are not turned on in the BIOS. This should be listed under Integrated Peripherals in the BIOS settings.
