Windows 98 Password Recovery

I have forgot a password used for a user account on a Windows 98 computer. I have searched this forum and read something about searching for pwl files. I did this, but the file names doesn't match the login names plus these files are encrypted. How do I go about resetting or recovering my password?

As far as I recall Windows 98 doesn't encrypt files (FAT doesn't support it unlike NTFS). Did you use other software to do this?

If you want to reset your password for windows, simply delete your PWL file, and reboot.
It should have the same name as your login name. If any do not, simply delete them all, this will not kill windows, and they will be recreated upon each user's logon.
Note: If you use dial up to access the internet, you may have to re-enter your password for that if you do not use third party software to create the connection.
