NEC DVD burner

Hello,

Windows ME reads my DVD-R as only 648MB instead of 4.7GB, Have been searching fourms for answers have not found any yet.

I did go to the NEC website and it said for my model of burner Windows ME,2000,XP does not need a driver so there was no help there.

Thanks

How are you checking the size? Do you have programs that might be CD only, not CD/DVD? Are the disks burnt or empty?

Have you tried the burning process? It might just be a glitch in the way the disk is "read".

You can look up the model at the NEC website. It might say that DVD+R disks are preferred. It will also have a recommended make and type of disk (try a different brand).

Hi anselm70:
your problem here seems to be that the burner program is not seeing the DVD at all and detecting it as a cd. Seems that is what has happened.

Now, I think I would look for another burner program. Go first to the NEC website and see if they have a free download burner program for that drive, and mention the number of the drive when you ask anything.
There are a number of nice programs out there which are either free or free for trial use. Get one which has statements as to running in your OS and mentions DVD burners as well. Nero is a very nice program, but may cost you if you download and install it. It may be worth it, because this program covers many kinds of DVD and CD burners. On the other hand, as I said, free ones are out there for the taking.
Another last point. You may have a program which is too old for the DVD you are using.
