windows ME online security

Hello everyone,

Switched back to using windows me on a old compaq presario 7360 my newer computer died on me

I have downloaded all the current updates from microsoft and the unoffical updates from the well known sites, mgdx etc.

I have also installed avast anti virus, softperfect personal firewall, spywareblaster, spybot search and destroy and all the current updates for office 2000 and IE6sp1.

Is Windows ME safe enough or secure enough for online banking.

Oh yea I am also running this machine behind a router.

Welcome to WindowsBBS

With all the software you've installed - I'd do online banking.

I would just change that firewall, go to oldversions.com, and download an old zonealarm version 3.7....for older PC's you will have to run older firewalls.. you can also use Sygate
5.0...

if your router has a firewall I think you should enable that and disable the one you have installed, Hardware firewalls are better than software.

To check your firewall try this:
https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2

Click on Proceed then All Service Ports.

But there's nothing wrong with running both...

Yes you should only use one software firewall on a system, but the router is another system so will not interfere with any firewalls on the PC's using it as a gateway.
