My Winamp, AOL, IE, Ad-Aware, etc.(anything i've run since this started) are all stuck in italic font. i have no idea how it happened. i cleaned the cache, tried a system restore, checked the font settings (internet options>fonts) and i'm out of ideas.

anyone know how i can fix this annoyance?

i checked there and went through all the settings for each thing(icon/window/etc.) and none of them were set to italic.....

here's a screen shot of a google search , maybe that'll give a better idea of what the problem is.......

I'm having exactly the same problem! It starts to really make your eyes ache when it's on your work computer! If I find a solution I'll let you know asap.

    Cheers, Andy

I've found a solution to this problem (I think!)

It sounds stupidly obvious, but double check that you have all of the following fonts:

    - Arial
    - Courier
    - Courier New
    - Modern
    - MS Sans Serif [two may appear as MS Reference]
    - MS Serif
    - Symbol
    - Tahoma
    - Times Roman
    - Wingdings

I'd accidently got rid of Arial (plain) when I was copying it across for a work purpose, hence it was defaulting to Arial Italic!

So simple, and I feel kind of stupid as this has been stumping me for the last two days!

Hope that this works for you too. Andy

    One solution

Thanx andy100 you set me of in the right direction! I opened my Fonts-folder and found that "Arial "-font pointed to a file called "HALVCI__.TTF" (normaly it should point to "arial.ttf ") and that file was in a group of files pointing towards a font group called "HalvettCondensed" and performed as the Italic version of that font.

Solution: I found out (in Win 2000) that it was as simple as just deleting the font "Arial" and then, by it self, it started pointing towards the correct file again ( "arial.ttf "). You may have to install the font again on your system.

    EDIT: Typo!

I have encountered this problem twice in the past. In one case, the solution was the one mentioned above(Windows XP/IE6).

And in another case(Windows 9x/IE5.5), the problem was solved by unregistering system32\mlang.dll file and re-registering it. Here is how to do it:

    1. Start->Run, type "regsvr32 /u mlang.dll "
You will get "DllUnregisterServer in mlang.dll succeeded." -> click "OK "
    3. Start->Run, type "regsvr32 mlang.dll "
You will get "DllRegisterServer in mlang.dll succeeded." -> click "OK "

This once solved my problem with IE stuck in italic fonts.

    italic problem

i registered with this bbs just to say thank you for the help. i too suffered the eyesore of all italics in IE (windows xp pro sp2). unregistering and registering mlang.dll did the trick.

if anyone out there is using adaware, the new version will detect MRU settings and clear them but not very well. i believe that when i chose to let adaware remove MRU registry entries that it affected the fonts in IE and gave me this problem.

hope that bit of info helps someone else.

    thanks again

Internet Explorer 6 Italic Font Problem

The way I solved this problem was using Tools/Internet Options/General (the default)/Fonts/Language Script than selecting User Defined instead of the default Latin Based and selecting OK. This solved my problem.

Interestingly when I went back to Tools/Internet Options/General (the default)/Fonts/Language Script, it was still set to Latin Based, but my italic problem was solved.

None of the other solutions on this board worked for me.
