Windows Media Player Problems

Hello,

My neighbor's computer is running Windows 98, SE, and her Windows Media Player does not seem to be working correctly. She is using WMP 9.0. She uninstalled it and downloaded it again, then tried to reinstall it and when it starts to install, she gets the following error message.

The setup wizard has found one or more problems:
Another program installation was not completed. You must restart your computer to complete the installation before upgrading Windows. Click Cancel, and restart your computer, and then try installing Windows Media Player 9 again.

We have done this several times and it makes no difference. We get the same error message over and over. How can we rid the previous installation and start fresh.

Thank you for your help.

Jean

Windows 95/Windows 98
Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
In the Named box, type wininit.ini.
In the Look in box, click Local hard drives, and then click Find Now.
Right-click the Wininit.ini file, click Rename, type wininit.xxx, and then click OK.

NOTE: The file should be located in the Windows folder.
Close the Find Files window.

See:

After doing this try the install again, making sure you have nothing running in the background that may interfer with the install process.
