Basstracker--I have a poor memory so this may be off base. If you do not already have TweakUI, get it. (this the version for Win98)
http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstati.../NTTweakUI.asp
(Take care with installation instructions. You right click on the .inf file and then Install.)
When you open TweakUI, you are going to have look around the various tabs. I think the one you want is called Drives. (As mentioned, I forget which.) One opens a window with all the various drives (A:, C:, etc.) listed in a row. Make sure that the little boxes to the left of all drives are checked|Apply|OK.

My System

Hi Jim ... I seem to be following you...

Hi Basstracker...

Found this doing a Google search...

Thanks for the fix. I don't have the option 'Right-click the Start button and choose Explore', it's greyed out on my Win98SE computer. So, I ran Explorer normally and selected C: and then chose View/Arrange Icons/by Name then I Control-clicked the X to quit Explorer. This method worked equally as well as the Microsoft KB article. It seems that it is the 'Control-click the X to quit Explorer' that is the the key to this. Control-clicking saves the choices made regardless of how you run Explorer or how you make the choices. One other thing I noted was that it only saves the options for that particular hard drive or partition. As I have several partitions and two drives, I had to do the procedure above for *every* drive/partition.
The M$ KB Article => http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q229070

Basstracker...go ahead and try TweakUI option that Jim suggested. It is a very good program. I use the WinXP version myself.

Basstracker--After installing TweakUI, did you open it and go to the Drives tab?

Thumbs up fixed... its gotta be my old age!

Ok, the older u get the longer it takes for things to be "recalled" in to memory.

This comp my wife has was my old system, which still had original OS on it (95b), upgraded hardware.. and now finally to win98.. Well it just so happens that I had tweakUI on it. I UNinstalled it, upgraded to 98se, and thats what made the start button go nuts. Sons comp and my new one with 98se never had TUI installed.

You guys did help jog my memory.. I checked allboxs for drives, restarted, works fine, just wish I could get rid of UI but it has its benifits

Thanks all!
