I have a Dell Optiplex 466 (probably 8-10 yrs old), which has been sitting around in our office unused for 2 yrs. I thought it was functioning ok for previous user, but not sure. I want to set it up with Win 98 to do simple stuff, word processing, some Excel stuff. On boot up, I get message "Invalid configuration info. Please run setup." When I try to install Win98, using legit original disks, I get message "PCI read configuration failure", and can get no further. Is this computer dead dead dead? Is there a simple fix out there somewhere?? Thnx.

No Computers dont just die, try replacing the CMOS battery and formatting the Hard drive like othe guy said, you should be ok maybe clean out the dust aswell while your at it.
I don't think "Invalid configuration info. Please run setup" is a battery problem. That message usually tells you, that BIOS is messed up. Go to BIOS, and reset it to "default".
"PCI read configuration failure" may have something to do with your CD ROM problem. Try that BIOS reset, first.
