How can I print the checked items in my msconfig startup file?
How do I remove old items in my startup file (those that I do not normally want restored to my startup file after I've cleared it)?
Not earth-shaking, and I've replaced check marks for years with only a little foul language.

Hello, welcome to the boards.
Go to Start\Run and type in Regedit and press Enter. Now use the + signs and browse to the Key [folder], and delete it.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run-
Note there is a minus sign, as you will see a Key right above it very similar, but without it. The one without the minus sign you want to keep. Look to the right pane of Regedit and verify you are at the correct one. You will see some of the entries you do not want.
Then go to this one;
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices-
and do the same.
There is no simple way to print the settings in MSCONFIG or even cut and paste them to notepad. While you are in a registry folder presented to you by Mark,Export that branch of the registery to a temp.reg file and then print that file.
Or...
You can use any kind of "screen capture" utility to take a snapshot of your Regedit, and then print it.
the line may get broken up,when copy pasteing,so copy paste the first line and then the last
That will export the contents of the Registry Machine Run key to a C:\Run.txt file
If you'd like >
Please do a copy and paste of that Run.txt file, and show us its contents.
alternatly SpyBot and several other apps can print out or export the stayups
If you are not happy tinkering in the Registry download and run Startup Control Panel - this will show what is running at startup and allow you to disable/delete entries. Don't think you can print from it.
The above link is just the exe and has no readme type file so you won't know what the switches are. Executing the file as is will probably suit your purposes but if you want to drill down to the nth degree you'll need to run:
startuplist.exe /verbose /complete /full.
On my system the 'short' list is 178 lines whereas the 'long' list is 1015 lines and gives the most extraordinary detail.
Thanks all. Advntage to being a senior citizen is that I don't have to apologize for not remembering things. Definition of clinical experience is doing same dumb things over and over until you find a way to cope with ignorance and errors. Will now go play with my regedit procs (I even have an old DOS bat file to copy changing attribs and restore my registry!). One of the problems of the golden years is that I've come down with CRS! Thanks again
I've been absent minded for as long as I can remember ( ) but only recently have been able to use the “When you get to my age...” routine. Daft thing is nobody bought the absent minded bit but now I can get away with murder!

But all I ever wanted was a simple way to record the startup button files in msconfig, and to remove old entries that I do not wish to check (i.e., make active). But it is educational!
