Loading Windows to a D drive

I have WIN 98 SE on my main "C" drive with no problems. Would like to add a copy to my "D" drive - have a problem. Every time I try this the installation will only allow going to the "C" drive with no apparent way of changing this to the "D" drive. Would someone know how this can be done?

Win98 will ONLY install on an "active primary" partition. Unless your D drive is a seperate drive you're out of luck. Even then, you wouldn't be able to dual boot without a third party program.

loading windows to D drive

Yes, my "D" drive is a separate drive and I would continue to boot from the "C" drive. The reason behind this whole deal is that I want to copy the "C" drive contents to the "D" drive as a backup (en total). The backup will not revert back to the "C" drive until I have re-installed Windows plus the backup program (BackUp MyPC). My hope of placing a copy of Windows (with the backup program) onto the "D" disk would be to get rid of having to reinstall Windows and the backup program. I thought I could format C and then use a "start-up" disc to get to the D disc and complete the recovery from there. Does this make any sense?

It sounds more like to me you may want to use something like Norton Ghost to clone your current OS, and be able to return to it at anytime.
