I'm so sorry, but I gave you some wrong information.... . I told you I installed the critical updates since I installed Windows 98 SE.... Well I did install the critical updates, but on 2-22-03 and we didn't put the Second Edition in until March... I checked my installation history and all the critical updates were done before we put in SE. What does this mean? Where are the updates that I did before?
Also on 3-9-03 I installed "Mapped Drives Shutdown Update"
and "Root Certificaates Update." WAS THIS A MISTAKE? If so, can these be removed?
In Windows Help I read that this restart problem can occur when you "Update Display Driver" or "Change Display Font Size."
Last week we had to do both because computer kept freezing up.
Could this be part of the problem?
I ran the System File Checker on my Windows 98 and they show a "CORRUPTED FILE' ...... setupx.dll. ..... C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM...
All I did was look into the System File Checker (being a beginner, I don't know how to restore a file....Could this be why my computer won't restart?
Help from anyone would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You
Sorry it took a while to get back. I'm getting a little lost. Halfway down this page will tell you how to extract the file. Though, I've heard of SFC erroneously reporting that particular file as corrupt before. It won't harm to replace though.
I'm not sure I understood your earlier post. Have you gone back to windows update and ensured all your critical updates are installed?
Have you been into device manager to look for any yellow exclamation marks?
Hi,
I am sorry I confused you. As you can see, I don't know much about computers yet, so it is hard sometimes to explain the problem.
I went to the web pages you sent.....all valuable information for me now.
I will let you know how it turns out for me.
Thank you so much for your help.
Hi There,
I went to Microsoft Windows Update and they ran a scan on my computer......I was told "There are no Critical Updates available at this time."
Does this mean that I have all Critical Updates on my comuputer already?
