About a year ago there was a problem with Windowsupdate freezing at the "catalog" screen. I found a fix for it at support.microsoft.com at that time. But now I need it again for a class I'm taking and I can't find the article. Does anyone remember how the fix was done? I know {I think} a regedit was required.

Brenda J--You should run a Search here on WindowsBBS. I ran one on the word "catalog" and came up with about 15 threads. One of the oldest was I can't access Windows update Product Catalog
However, it seems the solution suggested did not work. The same person was still posting a month later.
To use Windows Update you have to have ActiveX enabled. (I have put Windows Update in Trusted sites to avoid all the prompt windows.) Also a corrupted ActiveX control in C:\Windows\Downloaded Files can cause problems with Windows Update. And some people report problems caused by recent versions of Zone Alarm Pro.
