I run the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant on a Sony VGN-FW25G/B notebook running Intel Core 2 Duo Centrino 2 with 3GB RAM and the Upgrade Assistant says "Yes" with a few apps requiring updates or reinstallation, or new software required.

But when I go to Sony.com and check the notebook's Windows Compatibility, it replied "Sorry! The VAIO model you selected does not support the Windows 8 upgrade. "

    What does it mean?

Sony wants you to buy a new laptop. You have more than enough to run Windows 8 on that machine. Trust what MS said to you on the upgrade page.

It is on Windows Vista 32-bit. So, it can only be upgrade to Windows 8 32-bit, or able to go for 64-bit?

(I guess thevSony drivers are 32-bit only.)

Simple questions can be easier to get answers strict to the point. If the problem has a number of questions and put under one blog, then they are quite often answered incompletely or inadequately. So, I tend to divide them into simple sentences in question form.

Also, a simple question's answer may apply to many different situations. But putting all questions of a problem may have their answers biased to the particular problem.

I tend to think that Microsoft wants the business anyway and thus says 'Yes'. If I do the Windows 8 upgrade, it would be incomplete. Sony doesn't want to be blamed for an incomplete upgrade advice and thus says 'No'.
