    I too, would like to see these 2 features.
    1. As for a new file sys, I think we are way over due. Even though NTFS is more efficient that any FAT sys, a new sys could make better use of cluster size. 4K is not bad, but 0 would be better.
    2. To get folder size in Explorer, I've been using an app called "Folder Size ", which works quite well.

    I, for one, have been waiting with baited breath for the "database oriented" file system "WinFS" (which was announced back in 2003), that now appears to have been watered down to RFS "Resilient File System" which is currently only available on the server version of Windows 8.

    As far as folder sizes, I use XYplorer as my default explorer replacement.

    I chose the ability to switch between the Metro UI and the Classic UI, Hardware Diagnostic Tools, Windows Explorer with Tabs and more modularity options.

    The first option being able to swich between the Metro and the Classic UI I feel is one of the most important new features. This is because depending on if the option to switch between the new UI's is present in the final version of Windows 8 will play a large factor in determining whether I buy the new version or not.

    If I have to be forced to use the Metro UI in the final version of Windows 8 then I will be sticking with Windows 7 for a long time.

    The design of folders and files in all the windows systems I've ever used (with the the possible exception of Win 3.1) makes no sense whatever. An example is "documents ad settings ". the collection of files in that folder is simply crazy. And the registry; Evey time I interact with that thing, I come away with the feeling that I've been talking to a brain-damaged lunatic. And look at the process names that show up in task manager; they convey almost no useful information abou what these processes are doing. And I could go on and on; Windows is simply crazy. M$oft should start over, with a rational design meeting for deciding what files go in which folders. Of course that would cost lots of money. But M$oft HAS lots of money.

    What Feature in Windows 8?

    I'd like to see complete compatibility with Windows XP so that all the programs I've got will run WITHOUT HAVING TO GET A SPECIAL TOOL and buy the most expensive version (as was with Windows 7).

    Desktop Windows 8

    New desktop is horrific....confusing...and wastes time of computing while searching for "icons" that do what the user wants to activate.

    A legacy XP interface

    To me XP is the best that MS has ever produced. I realize that time marches on and software has to adapt to the tablet world. However, I'm considering switching to some flavor of Linux to retain control of what I want to do--which is what XP does for me splendidly. I don't think at this time that Windows 8 will appeal to me. I skipped Windows 7 altogether and, most thankfully, Vista! The only chance for MS to keep my business would be to build in an ability to run Win 8 side-by-side with XP-Pro SP3, my all time favorite, the most completely configurable and trouble-free OS in my case.

    You read the wrong rumors :D

    It looks likely to be only 4: Home Premium, Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate.

    Rumors are only Home Premium & Professional will be available at retail. Enterprise will be available only to volume licensees while Ultimate would be an OEM-only SKU.

    Yeah I think Windows 7 is better than Windows XP by far. It has more security and features that Windows XP just doesn't have.

    So, basically 2 editions for PC's: Windows 8 & Windows 8 Pro.

    Windows 8 Enterprise only available through the Software Assurance program.

    For PCs and tablets built around ARM processors, there will be a single edition, called Windows RT.

    Great article Arie. That definitely is an improvement over the previous amount of editions of Windows that we've had to choose from in the past. Having only Windows 8 and Windows Pro is much simpler then trying to choose from Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate.
