    Hello;

Received a new computer for Christmas compliments of my wife. Has Windows 7, when it goes into a powersave mode, I move the mouse no luck. I tap on the arrow keys and it comes back up, but with what appears as the background up but no icons. No taskbar, no windows orb, just a blank screen with the background up. Thats it and I'm forced to reboot. I lose valuable information, websites, everything when this happens.

I've gone through the powersave options and turned off the hibernate option and lengthened the time for sleep. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Its a new Gateway computer that came with Windows 7 installed. I've watched the Windows videos from their site, and they give me nothing on this. I'm at a loss here.

Is there some place I can download a PDF or document of the manual for Windows 7 also?

I really appreciate any help on this matter.

    Jared77,

You may want to read this web site:
    Can't exit Power saving mode

Even though the computer is new, it could be the battery on your mother board that
is causing the problem or the battery is missing.

Follow the steps on the web site for changing the battery and see if the problem goes away.

I should have put in the reply that this also applies to desk tops.

The best solution to your problem is not to use any Windows power saving features.
MS has been never able to master them, even in Windows 7, as we can see.

Start your troubleshooting by running powercfg /energy from a command prompt.

When finished, copy C:\Windows\System32\energy-report.html to the desktop & open it with IE.

Type cmd in the Search box on the Start Menu, right click cmd.exe at the top of the menu & choose Run as administrator.

Ive got it saved to the desktop but it won't open even with IE. I right click and then select open with

IE is the only program it will let me open it with.

I had to follow the path to get to the file, as it said said on the C: to view it just like you said it would. So now its on the desktop but it won't open?

Sorry, but I have no idea why it wouldn't open. Try this:

Open a command prompt as administrator as I indicated above.

At the command prompt, type cd \ & hit Enter

Now type powercfg /energy (& hit Enter)

You will find the energy-report.html file directly in the root of your C drive (C:\energy-report.html). You should be able to (double)click the file to open it in IE.
