Mission Statement
WindowsBBS is an online community dedicated to easily accessible technical support for those using Microsoft operating systems and other Windows software.
Our goal is to become the leading resource for computer users that require assistance with their day-to-day computer usage, including full support for networking PC's, virus & malware removal, system upgrades and general support questions.
Keep in mind that W7 has a steeper learning curve than XP. And, I'm surprised you've only found one thing.
However, I'm not clear on what you mean by, ". . . a replacement?"
As more and more people migrate to W7 from XP, there's going to be a lot of "how do I fix this, change that or where's the tweak" questions. Some of the answers will be readily available, but for all the others, you'll have to wait until more people are ticked-off not being able to do the same things with W7 as they were with XP before you'll get any answers.
My guess is that it'll be a good 6 months before some of the tweaks you're looking for will be published. But, keep in mind, there's some things you will just not be able to tweak. I noticed that most of the Vista tweaks don't work on W7.
Your best bet at this point, since you've already installed W7, is to write down all the annoyances you run across and, hopefully, over the course of a few months you'll get the answers.

1) I place a folder at the top level of my start menu. Inside that folder are shorcuts and other folders with more nesting involved. I creat everything exactly the way I have worked for over a decade.
2) This functionality is used exactly like this and is usually called a fly out
click on the start menu icon
MOUSE over (no click) the folder you want and the icons fly out. single click and off you go
No. And, I've found other "tweaks" that cost anywhere from $10 to 20$. Which begs the question, "Why should you have to pay to make your OS the way you want and easier to use?" And I'm not talking about "blinds" or "skins" or anything prettifying like that: I'm talking about the guts. How much money do you have to spend (hundreds of dollars, maybe???) to make your computer more user friendly?
In all the ads I've seen for W7, the message has always been "simple"; which it is if you are just a click-and-go user. However, if you're a customizer and tweaker, you're pretty much out of luck for now. Unless, like I said above, you're willing to shell out some bucks.
Who knows? Maybe "Uncle Bill" wanted to create a sub genre of code writers (so they could make some $$$, too) making apps that'll allow you to do things the way you want.
IMNSHO, W7 is a "sit down, shut up, and take it the way it is. And if you don't like it — tough s**t!" OS.
LOL Points taken but in once sence I'm a happy camper because I can run my legacy software (7ears old) under Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition (64-bit) with one click of the rodent.
I'm running the app I mentioned so give me a few days and I will post a mini review. Assuming that's Kosher?

Quick question: Do the icons for your legacy apps display properly? I have some older programs that no matter what I set the Compatibility Mode for, they just don't display. What comes up instead looks like a small page with some kind of graphic on the left and text (blurry) on the right.
