Programs icons changing

Hi there fellows.

This is my first post. I've tried the search, but couldn't find the answer I was hopping for. So, here we go:

All of a sudden, some of the icons of my files were changed to the default blank-console icon, eg, .XLS, .DOC, .PDF, etc.

If the problem was the systems icons, that would not be a problem, since the rebuild of the shell cache would certainly solve the issue; but as it is, I can't find a way to fix it - and specially, to prevent it.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Actually, I have reinstalled Adobe, but not Office. But in previous ocasions - using other Windows versions - that was not a problem, since the files were automaticaly realocated to their handlers. Nevertheless, i have already tried to reasign those files, and that did not work - I mean, they open fine, just the icons are not correct.
