I installed an upgraded video card and went from a video score of 7.6 to 7.9.
The change was from a Radeon HD4890 to a HD7870.
My overall score was 7.4, limited by the CPU-a Core i7 920 running at 2.67Ghz.
I have a Samsung SSD and it scored at 7.7.
After I installed the video card upgrade, and this was the only change I've made in a year or so, the WEI score of the SSD dropped from 7.7 to 7.0.
Is this something that needs to be fixed, or should I just let it be?
I did read here and there that the WEI was meaningless and was actually deleted by Microsoft from Windows 8 and subsequent.
Still, I'd like some reassurance that something didn't handicap the SSD.
    Thanks.

The Experience Index is at best - a toy.

Most people don't pay it too much attention.

Hi skaler2k. I wouldn't worry about what the Windows Experience Index says. If your SSD is running fine then just leave it alone.

Hi skaler2k, as Evan said - forget it - WEI was removed from W8 on. It was never to be relied on as an indicator of performance. Mine fluctuated with hardware changes and I never got a high score, yet my comp worked quick enough for me. ;) Neil.

    Thanks for your reply

I kind of suspect that it is a trivial problem. SSDs being relatively new(to me), I thought perhaps there might be a known performance hit that they all take early in their lives, and I just hadn't heard or read about them yet. Mine is not quite 1 year old.
    Thanks again.

The most noticeable difference between SSD and HDD is the time improvement when booting the comp. Overall up to 10 times quicker. :D Neil.

I have a program called Wise Care 365

It is similar to CCleaner, but, upon booting up your computer, it gives you a little graphic in the lower right corner that shows you how many seconds it took to reach the Windows Desktop.
When I switched from my conventional harddrive, which was a WD Velociraptor to the Samsung 840 EVO SSD, my boot time went from roughly 80 seconds to as fast as 26. It varies a bit, depending on which, or how many peripheral gadgets you have hooked up. Right now, with 3 external USB hard drives connected, it is relatively constant at 37 seconds.

If your SSD is a Samsung 840 evo then the slowdown may be real.

Apparently it effects ‘old data’ and develops over time.
Samsung has supplied another fix. (guess the 1st one didn’t work)
Go to their support site or goggle for ‘samsung 840 evo slowdown’

Slowdown problem doesn't effect other models.

Thanks so much. I will certainly visit the support site. I'll report back here if the WEI improves or changes from its current 7.0 value.

After downloading and running optimization and firmware update from Samsung Magician 4.9, my boot time went from 38 seconds to 17-an all time high!
However, the Windows Experience Index remained at 7.0. Strangely, my CPU score went from 7.4 to 7.5-probably within the margin of error. As others have mentioned, WEI is probably worthless.
The sequential read and write scores within the Magician software remained where they were before. The range for read is 0-550, and my score was 280.
The write range is 0-520, and my score is 250.
My motherboard is 6 years old and only supports SATA 2, so I'm good.
Thanks again to one and all for your kind responses.

Do not be too obsessed with WEI. It's not that accurate. That's why MS dumped it. You can still access it in Win 8 through an elevated command prompt.
