So I'm editing subtitles in an anime video. After I place it at the correct time, I preview the video to make certain everything is synced. I then move onto the next one.

The problem is, twice now, VideoPad has shut down right in the middle of this. There is no crash dialog; the program just terminates. The last time this happened, Audacity started up on its own right after, without my having clicked on the icon. A virus perhaps, someone remotely controlling my computer? I've noticed no other strange behaviors.

When this happens, my CPU temperature is hovering at around 127°. The fan is running. But if it were overheating, wouldn't I at least get a crash dialog?

    Thank you for any assistance.

    Hi silverwolf107.

Lets see what is starting up with your machine.

Please download Autoruns. After you download the zipped folder on your desktop, right click the zipped folder and click Extract All. After the folder has been extracted open the regular folder. Run the autoruns.exe program by right clicking on it and selecting Run as administrator. When you open the program click the Logon Tab and then post a screenshot of all the startup entries in your next reply.

In Autoruns remove the following items:

All the items highlighted in yellow
    Toshiba Flash Cards
    HotStartOn
    SmoothView
    Toshiba HDD Protection
    TosSENotify
    Toshiba PC Health Monitor
    Toshiba Power Saver
    StartCCC
    Amazon Music
    Windows Mail (Both Entries)

Then reboot the computer and post a fresh Autoruns screenshot in your next reply and see if the same behavior occurs.

I'd like to keep HDD Protection. Will remove the rest.

    Here's the new screencap:

Your screenshot is too small. Please edit your post and upload a regular sized image.

Is there a reason why you are keeping the Catalyst Control Center starting up with Windows?

Has the VideoPad program been working any better since removing those startup entries?

I assume Catalyst Control Center is necessary. It shut down once after I removed the autorun items you indicated. So now I've been saving my work whenever my laptop's fan starts spinning.

You can remove Catalyst Control Center safely in Autoruns as you can start it on demand when you need to.

Do you want to continue to troubleshoot this issue further or has VideoPad become more stable now?

    OK. I'll remove it.

Yes. I'd like to continue troubleshooting. I'll play with VideoPad tomorrow and see if I can use it without the program shutting down every time the fan kicks on.

    Thank you.

Edit: It crashed again today. This time, my browser popped up with an error reporting form from NCH (the vendor). After I filled it out, it offered me a beta of the new version 8.10. I installed it and then it crashed while I was subtitling. However, this time, it gave me an actual crash dialog, which I guess is an improvement.

Right now, I'm just saving my work every few lines so I don't lose it.

    It's the only one.

The video driver is the one I already have.

    Will install DX today.

I finally got the subtitling done, but when I watched a preview of the video, the video froze while the audio played on in several spots. This is a problem with the video itself, not my computer, as I also watched the videos in VLC and the same thing happened.

VideoPad is a good program, but this beta has more issues to work out than just the program crashing while inserting subtitles.

Go ahead and close this thread.
