I put a link to Internet Explorer in my start menu: http://paulrittman.com/StartMenu.png

Is there a way to remove that arrow and those items on the right?

Hi Paul, I'm using W8.1 with Start8 and if I Right click on the Start8 Button, I get a menu with options to Configure and it asks what shortcuts do you want on the right hand side?
I see you're using W7 so what does a right click on the Start button give you? Neil.

I was able to remove the right side menu by unchecking the option that said something about opening up sub-menus when I hover the mouse over them. That didn't remove the arrow, but at least I'm not distracted by the appearance of a menu I'm not interested in clicking on.

Right-click the Start button and select Properties. Select the Start Menu tab & uncheck Store and display recently opened items in the Start menu and the taskbar

    I'd already done that.
