I was installing a game (IL2 Sturmovik) and at the same time it was installing (from GOG), I was setting up a third party app for it (IL-2 DCG). I've never had a problem with either program in the past but now when I try to run IL-2 DCG I keep getting the message "Program Not Responding ". I realize this is an issue with the program but the problem is that I couldn't close it. Within the program itself is just the spinning blue icon. I tried right clicking on the icon in the tool bar and selecting "close" but nothing happened. I tried to access task manager but the entire desktop turned white except for the program that stopped working. I clicked around and everything turned black. I pressed ctrl-alt-del but nothing happened. I held the power button in until the computer turned off. When it started again, I got the message about it not shutting off correctly, which I expected, but then it tried to run CHKDSK. It encountered some error, something about unable to open something. It happened quickly and I didn't write it down unfortunately. I ran Norton and Malwarebytes but other than cookies, nothing was found. After Malwarebytes finished, it prompted me to reboot. I did this and got the CHKDSK message again. I opted to not allow it to run this time. The computer seems fine when it's on.

You should let chkdsk run. There could be some logical problem with the partition. However, if it keeps running repeatedly, you should check your hard disk for physical error (bad sectors).

I'd love to but it won't run. I get a message about some software profile that was recently installed and doesn't run. It just boots Windows normally after that.

Hi The WobMob. Can you post the complete error message of why Check Disk doesn't complete successfully?

It goes by pretty fast but I tried to write down as much as I saw. Chkdsk cannot open volume caused by an error of a recently installed software package. I installed the game after I first saw this message last night. The only other thing installed before this was a Windows update on 3/26.

If Windows won't let you run chkdsk, the other option is to try using something like Parted in linux.

Download System Rescue CD, burn it & boot from it. Read the manual BEFORE doing anything as the utilities on the cd are very powerful & could erase/destroy all your data/system/partitions if not used properly.

    A safer bet :)

Your System Spec does not list your hard drive - download Speccy (free) from piriform.com and use it to determine your hard drive - see screenshot below.

Then log onto the drive manufacturer's web site and download their disk diagnostic software and run it.

I downloaded and Speccy (very handy tool btw!) and found I have a Western Digital drive. I ran the quick scan from the diag tool I got from their website and it found no problems. I'm running the extended scan now which will take about 8 hours.

Okay, the diag tool ran the extended check and found no errors.

    Okay, the chkdsk issue is resolved, thank you! However, I'm getting two error messages when my computer starts;
"There was a problem starting users\bill\appdata\local\exult\dosbox\ijisid.dll the module could not be loaded "

    "There was a problem starting user\bill\appdate\local\irrational games\exult\dosbox\yzzitq.dll "

I deleted everything but still getting the messages. Exult is something I had on my computer but have since deleted. I have no idea what Irrational Games is though.

Irrational Games is the company that created the BioShock games for PC. That dll file loading on startup is suspicious and could be signs of an infection.

Please download Autoruns. After you download the zipped folder on your desktop, right click the zipped folder and click Extract All. After the folder has been extracted open the regular folder. Run the autoruns.exe program by right clicking on it and selecting Run as administrator. When you open the program click the Logon Tab and then post a screenshot of all the startup entries in your next reply.

Stupid question, but how do I get a screenshot? I hit Print Screen but I'm not seeing anything saved anywhere.

Okay, pressing Ctrl+V in this box did nothing so I saved it as a file and attached it.

What version is it Birds of Prey, 1946, Cliff of Dover, Battle of Stalingrad. Did you have the game installed on win 7 previously.
