Suddenly Windows 7 Desktop and Software icons, just disaappeared from the monitor screen, leaving a white screen. Computer was now imobiled, numerous boot up refused to restore Desktop. Booting up computer carried out normal screens up to or should have been Desktop mode.
I carried out two factory settings, each time stopping at Desktop screen, resulting just blank. I am now forced and resolved to working with Vista.
I have used Windows 7 since 2009, and never experienced this error and most
probably as usual no one else has done so.

Hi BobbyScot. Can you boot the computer into Safe Mode? Do you have a Windows 7 DVD available to repair your installation?

Hi Evan Omo, Windows 7 is no longer installed, removed because computer was unable to boot up beyond the Desktop screen. I do have an up grade DVD from installed Vista to Windows 7 64bit. The DVD up grade must be used on this computer alone, with installed Vista. I am not happy to install this copy of Winsows 7, as it takes several hours for computer to reinstall from factory settings Vista/Windows 7 and to find that again computer has stalled with no Desktop showing on monitor screen.
At present, functioning reasonably with Vista installed, though extremely slow.
I was under the impression that a factory setting, resulted in a clean registry and C drive. This maybe the case, but many software remain installed. If it could be carried out, to obtain a new genuine copy of Windows 7, installing it on a cleaned out computer, without Vista and HP Presario preinstalled unwanted software.

Is the Windows 7 upgrade DVD a retail version or did HP send you the disk.

HP offered the upgrade, with a charge of £10.
"For use only as an upgrade to a qualifying HP Windows 7 Upgrade Option PC "
"This disk contains 64-bit software only ". HP and Microsoft had an agreement, as product key activates and accepted by Microsoft.

You will need to create a Windows 7 DVD to reinstall the Windows 7 OS. You can find Windows 7 SP1 ISO files here, Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO Image Downloads.

Make sure you download the ISO file that corresponds with the version of Windows 7 that is shown with your product key.

Once you have downloaded the ISO file you want, download and run the portable version of Active ISO Burner and burn the Windows 7 ISO file to a DVD.

Then boot the computer from your Windows 7 DVD and see if that works. If it does then consult this guide on reinstalling Windows 7, How to Do a Clean Installation with Windows 7.

On the w7forums site it tells you what version of Windows 7 you are downloading for the ISO file. You just have to look underneath each download link for the version of Windows 7 that you need.

What version of Windows 7 does your product key correspond to?

I tried to copy Windows 7 using Expressburn, but this is causing several errors.
Unable to write to DVD-RW, several have been tried (Sony) 4.57GB. I am not sure, as it has been many years since using DVD to save software. I note options are Data or ISO or what is required? Each time a burn is attempted, computer disk drive is working for lengthy sessions.

Just use the Active ISO burner software that I linked to in my previous post. I have successfully used that program to burn many Windows ISO files to DVD's and have not had any issues.

Make sure you are using a blank DVD before you burn the ISO file.

I tried three efforts and only one possible success. I thought it best to have an extra copy for immergencies, howerver, Active ISO Burner now pops with "Not write to disk" and worst, saved copy of 17-24209.iso now refuses to open and this applies to new downloads from the Web site. Am I wrong in thinking, that possibly you are allowed only three copies and the same numer of burns.

Last two attempts to download and saved, are shown as "Partial Downloads" with the explorer icon.

Just curious. Did you ever try to do a clean install from the upgrade disk. If you do try it have your Vista and Windows 7 product keys handy.

Never had the Vista Product Key - it was preinstalled by HP.
Have the Windows 7 Product Key included with the up grade disk.
I carried out factory setting when the Desktop screen vanished, but did not install Windows 7, incase desktop screen remained blank and required another factory setting to Vista stage only.
As I said already, no further downloads of new Windows 7 is possible, due to Icon showing as "partial downloaded ". Windows Explorer is currently showing signs of being corrupted, as opening software icons being extremely slow with captions showing Windows Explorer stopped.

Should be a Vista COA sticker on the machine that contains the product key. Use the free version if you can get it to work Magical Jelly Bean Key Finder

Then try using a different computer or use a different Internet browser to get the ISO file.
