It always seems a little creepy to see ads for items I have recently searched for using google when the ads pop up in other IE websites that I later visit.

Is there some way to tell google that I don't want my search preferences used by them to generate ads when visiting other sites?

Hi Rob. What Internet browser are you using? If its IE11 then you can use Tracking Protection lists to block the Google ads. See this link, Internet Explorer 11 Privacy.

  3. to hide this advert.

Did adding a Tracking Protection list solve the issue in IE11?

    Evan,

    Thanks for the link.
I made the change suggested but haven't been back on enough to test it out.

Any idea if there is something similar for FF since we use that most of the time?

See this link of the Do Not Track feature of Firefox, FireFox Do Not Track FAQ.

There isn't anything similar to the Tracking Protection lists in Firefox.

In order to block ads globally across all browsers you would need to install an ad blocker browser add-on or use a custom hosts file.
