I am intending selling my old laptop running windows 7 and my question is this:

If I change the partitions and format the drive will that make my old data files unreadable?

If not, what would you suggest I do/use?

Yes and no. I would just run a drive write/wipe program a couple of times then Format and reinstall. That is just my personal thinking though.
