Homebuilt PC Intel 2.8 I7 processor, 8 GB memory, Windows 7 Enterprise

Got up in middle of night July 7/8 and noticed screen was glowing (not normal). Assumed it was Windows updates. Next night went to use the computer. Frozen. Restarted - hard boot. Went through boot sequence OK and came to starting windows screen. Never completed the process. Used DVD to access advanced tools. Memory check OK. 'Repair Windows Startup' failed. Attempted to reboot from several restore points from right before Windows update (which I think is the culprit) to as far back as late May. Still no good - everyone I tried gave me an error similar to that in the attached picture, having to do with some file in Office 2013 Excel not being able to be extracted. Different files noted with each different restore point attempt, but all Excel. Tried to even do an install of Win7 again, but would not go. Is there some way I can remove pieces of Office 2013 from a command prompt?

    Any thoughts/ideas/etc greatly appreciated!

    TIA!

Hi, can you access SAFE mode and try Command Prompt from there? Neil.

Have you asked your IT dep.?

The error says that system restore failed to extract a file. You said you tried to reinstall Windows 7, but that didn't work. What was the error you received?

Sorry for the delay in response. I am in the IT department where I work, but this one has us stumped. The message received when trying to install/reinstall is:

"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD or USB flash drive, please insert it now.
NOTE: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step.
    BROWSE OK CANCEL "

Browse or OK both open a 'my computer'-type window in which to look for the driver, but none is found in any of the locations.

I even put a brand new 1 TB WD HD in to see if I could load Win7 onto it. Got the same message(s).

DVD device in the PC is a Lite-On DVDRW which has never failed to perform.

I understand the error message, but I don't understand why it's coming up.

Pete, I did not follow my own advice to Google the error! Thanks - the information you gave allowed me to use a USB stick and gat the hard drive to install and boot. I appreciate your help.
